2022 Yamaha MT-07: The Everyday Naked Bike That Never Gets Old
The 2022 Yamaha MT-07 continues to be one of the most popular middleweight naked motorcycles on the market, and for good reason. Combining lightweight handling, a torque-rich CP2 parallel-twin engine, comfortable ergonomics, and an affordable price, the MT-07 appeals equally to newer riders looking to move up and experienced motorcyclists wanting a fun, versatile machine.
Whether you’re commuting through city traffic, carving up back roads, or taking a weekend ride through the mountains, the MT-07 delivers an engaging riding experience that has made it a benchmark in the naked bike segment.
Performance That Makes Every Ride Fun
At the heart of the MT-07 is Yamaha’s legendary 689cc CP2 engine featuring a 270-degree crossplane crankshaft. This engine produces strong low- and mid-range torque, making acceleration feel immediate without requiring constant high RPM.
The six-speed transmission shifts smoothly, while the assist-and-slipper clutch reduces lever effort and helps maintain stability during aggressive downshifts. The result is a motorcycle that’s equally enjoyable for everyday commuting and spirited weekend riding.
For 2022, the MT-07 retained the styling updates introduced the previous year, including a redesigned LED headlight, updated bodywork, and improved braking performance.
Comfortable Without Being Boring
One of the MT-07’s greatest strengths is its balance between comfort and performance.
An upright riding position, wide handlebars, and a manageable seat height make the bike confidence-inspiring for many riders. At just over 400 pounds fully fueled, it feels remarkably light and agile whether navigating traffic or attacking twisty roads.
The minimalist styling follows Yamaha’s “Dark Side of Japan” design philosophy, giving the MT-07 an aggressive yet clean appearance that has aged exceptionally well.
Technology
The 2022 MT-07 focuses on rider enjoyment rather than overwhelming technology. Standard equipment includes:
- Full LED lighting
- LCD digital instrument display
- Fuel injection
- ABS braking system
- Assist and Slipper clutch
- Lightweight tubular steel frame
Its simplicity is part of its appeal—less complexity means lower maintenance while still providing modern features riders expect.
