Honda Talon 1000R and 1000X Hands On Review

Honda recently invited me to the IMS show in Washington DC to see the all new Honda Talon 1000R and 1000X. These machines look amazing. They have great lines and stand out from other side by sides have seen. The first thing I noticed was that instead of making one model that’s okay for everything, Honda outdid themselves and made two purpose built versions. They both come with Honda’s amazing DCT transmission. This eliminates all belt slip and gets you more power to the ground. They both have ample room inside the cockpit. I am a big guy at 6 foot 4 and 300lbs. We had one of the Honda reps sit next to me and I have plenty of arm room and lots of head room. The seats were also very comfortable and had plenty of leg room. My size 14 shoes also did not feel cramped down by the pedals. This has been a problem for me in other brands of side by sides and I am happy that Honda hit a home-run in their primary market for this unit.

The Honda Talon 1000R is made for ripping across the open desert and going over high speed whoops due to its wider stance, longer wheelbase and longer suspension travel. The Talon 1000X is made for tight trails and precise handling on tight courses and high speed dual track trail riding. Both come with fully adjustable Fox Shox. I had a lot of fun climbing around on the Honda Talon and I’m looking forward to driving one soon!
